SONG THRUSH

Reports: 6 little grebe, 18 Canada Goose, 17 Tufted Duck, 4 Cetti's Warbler, 1 white throat and 30 Dunlin on the shore have been spotted this week. The resident barn owls and little owls have also been very obliging while we carried out evening walks over the last couple of weeks.

Speaking of other flying wildlife I recorded at least 5 different bat species while out on the reserve last night. Definetly heard pips, noctules and soprano pips. We'll analyse the sonograph to confirm which species of myotis were heard.

1st Canada goslings out on May 6th. Others well along the hatching conveyor belt, 3 Canada broods on the 7th, 18 Tufted Duck, 2 Cetti's Warbler of note.

Ringing station bank holiday weekend: 44 birds processed today, many birds with brood patches. Details and pictures on their website.

Ed Drewitt led a dusk bird walk for the reserve volunteers on Tuesday the 7th of May. It was a beautiful evening. We heard cetti's song and saw the usual suspects along wharf lane. The Little Owl greeted us at the start of the walk and we were very fortunate that a water vole put on a fantastic show as we were heading towards the sea wall. We saw wimbrel by the estuary and a fox darting across the foreshore.

There was a great Crested Grebe on the main North Pool this morning (8/5).
