A new summer home

In the Autumn we created a new nesting island and a sandmartin bank in the south pools field (pictures below). The island is weathering in nicely and has already had some winged visitors, including lapwing, curlew and tufties. The persistent rain submerged the majority of it leaving an ideal habitat for waders. With the help of volunteers we will be filling the drainage pipes in the sandmartin bank with sand this week. Hopefully, the new bank will catch the attention of some sandmartins this summer and provide them with a nice summer home.

There have also been more reported sightings of barn owls recently. Please keep the reports coming in.
