Happy New Year

14/01/13, WeBS: 6 Mute Swan, 5 Canada Goose, 2 Shelduck, 44 Wigeon, 8 Gadwall, 15 Teal, 9 Mallard, 16 Shoveler, 5 Pochard, 14 Tufted Duck, 7 Little Grebe, 47 Coot, 14 Moorhen, 17 Lapwing, 18 BH Gull, 2 Common Gull, 11 Herring Gull, 1 LBB Gull.
Other stuff: the Little Owl (barns after short absence), 1 Raven.

Little Grebes have been doing well at this site since the pools were created in 2005. In winter, most of them congregate on the main pool but later disperse in spring to breed, some to the smaller pools and ditches nearby or away from the site altogether.

Best numbers usually occur in early autumn (up to 20 seen) with a mixture of residents+locally grown young and newly arrived migrants from elsewhere.
